More than 100 million views. A feature in People Magazine. Thousands of comments. And it all started with our incredible florist, Flower Girl & Co., lying flat on the ground in the pouring rain, holding up a floral installation during an outdoor wedding ceremony. Yes, we’re talking about you Miss @flowergirlandco. If you were on the wedding side of the internet this year, there’s a good chance you saw the video. What you didn’t see was everything happening around it.

The Story Behind the Viral Wedding Video
The wedding took place at The Sagamore Resort on Lake George, New York, where we had the privilege of planning and designing an elevated Adirondack wedding weekend for our bride and groom, who traveled from Charleston, South Carolina, to celebrate with their family and friends. As a wedding planner who works throughout Lake George and the Adirondacks, we know that weather is always part of the conversation when planning an outdoor wedding. But that day, the weather had been perfect. Blue skies, beautiful temperatures and a 5% chance of rain. We have videos on our phones from five minutes before the ceremony showing nothing but blue sky.
Like any outdoor wedding, we had been watching the weather closely and discussing our wedding rain plan. Our final rain call had to be made about an hour before the ceremony. With blue skies overhead, a 5% chance of rain in the forecast and nothing concerning on the radar, all signs pointed toward moving forward with the outdoor ceremony.
Then the ceremony doors opened, and it started pouring.
It came out of absolutely nowhere. The processional had already begun when the sudden rain and wind started putting the floral installation at risk.
Our florist saw what was happening and, before the bride walked down the aisle, dove behind the structure, laid flat on the ground and held the flowers in place for the entire ceremony. The bride had absolutely no idea. In fact, she didn’t find out until around 11 p.m. that night. Most of the guests didn’t notice either. The only people who really knew what was happening were the wedding vendors watching her do it.

What 100 Million Views Actually Showed About Wedding Vendors
The internet saw a florist lying in the rain. We saw a really good wedding vendor.
Because while this happened to be caught on camera, experienced wedding vendors are solving problems behind the scenes all day long. Someone is adjusting a timeline because portraits ran late, fixing a bustle five minutes before introductions, drying chairs after unexpected rain, moving décor, communicating with catering, checking the radar or buying another vendor ten minutes of time when something isn’t quite ready.
Most of the time, the couple never knows. And that’s kind of the point.
Your wedding vendors affect so much more than how your wedding looks. You’re also choosing the people who will be in the room when the timeline changes, the weather turns or something goes completely off-script. A beautiful portfolio matters. Experience matters. Personality matters. But so does how someone reacts when there isn’t a plan for what just happened.
The best wedding vendors aren’t the ones who can promise nothing will go wrong. They’re the ones you trust to know what to do when something does.
That’s also why your vendor team as a whole matters. Weddings are collaborative. Your wedding planner, venue, florist, photographer, videographer, caterer, entertainment team and everyone else involved are constantly communicating and adjusting throughout the day.
When you’re choosing wedding vendors, ask about more than their final product. Ask how they handle unexpected changes. Ask how they communicate with other vendors. If you’re planning an outdoor wedding, ask about their experience with weather changes and wedding rain plans. Read the reviews that mention words like calm, prepared, flexible, proactive and communicative.
Those things may not be as exciting to look at on Instagram, until it starts raining.

From a 5% Chance of Rain to 100+ Million Views
We posted the video because we couldn’t believe what we had just watched happen during this Lake George wedding. Then the internet did its thing. Across platforms, the viral wedding video climbed past 100 million views, generated thousands of comments and eventually caught the attention of People Magazine.
But the funniest part is that when our florist dove behind those flowers, there was no audience of millions. There was barely an audience at all.
She wasn’t doing it for a camera. She didn’t know the video would go viral. She definitely didn’t know we’d eventually be writing a blog about it. She saw something that could affect our couple’s wedding and handled it.
It was funny. It was chaotic. And yes, it made for a very good viral wedding video. But it also captured something couples don’t always get to see: choose wedding vendors who care about your wedding when no one is watching.
Those are the people you want in the room when it starts raining.
